J1 visa holders in the US and all J-2 dependents must carry mandatory US J1 Exchange Visitor Visa Insurance (medical/health coverage) during their stay in the United States. US Government regulations for the J1 Visa Health Insurance stipulate that the J-1 visa holder should carry mandatory health insurance coverage per requirements of the US Department of State, failing which then the J-1 sponsor must terminate the J1 exchange visitor program and inform the US Department of State of the same.
